Netherton Victoriana Day 2009

The sun came out again for the second Netherton Victoriana Day on Saturday 19 th September. The good weather throughout the day helped bring an estimated 3,000 people on to the streets of Netherton to celebrate and join in the fun.

Once again the Victorian Fun Fair was a real hit with the youngsters who were able to use the different rides all day for just a £2.00 token.

Queen Victoria and her entourage delighted her audience once again along with Fog and Flash, two very funny Victorian Explorers. The day was further complimented by Morris Dancers, Black Country Street Performers and Musicians, Miniture Steam Engines, Children's Land Train and Pony Rides and a Town Crier was employed to announce the day's events.

Just before the close of the afternoons events Netherton Park rang to the sound of a full blooded bayonet charge and the firing of rifles from the 80 th Staffordshire Foot Soldiers re-enactment group. Children also had the opportunity to see what it was like in a Victorian school and there was also an exhibition of Victorian costumes on display. Many of the stallholders entered into the spirit of the day by dressing up in Victorian costume. In the evening an Old Time Music Hall took place at the Netherton Arts Centre.

Our thanks to go to all who attended and helped support a very successful day. We would also like to thank the following for their support:- Birmingham Community Foundation (Grassroots Grants), Dudley Performing Arts, Black Country Housing, Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council, Netherton Regeneration Strategic Group and Netherton Police.

Plans for next year's event have already begun with a change in theme to a 1940's day
